Abby McCarthy is a singer-songwriter grown out of Bangor, Maine. Raised by the crisp, salt sting of the Atlantic ocean and the mysterious, brooding nature of the deep, Maine wilderness, her music is a blend of bootleg pop and lush, aromatic piano imagery, with dark, earthy undertones that highlight her authenticity. Her lyrics are direct and narrative: concise, while still maintaining their relatability. Abby’s voice can be described as unwavering, uncompromising, and above all else, undeniably genuine.
Abby was classically trained in piano for over 15 years; however, oftentimes instead of practicing, as her teachers would have hoped, she would find herself writing strange pieces or songs for hours on end. Over the years, she tried her hand at quite a few other instruments, but more often than not, she ended up playing bass for her friends’ bands in the back room of her house. She obtained most of her musical influences from her father while on long, 10-hour family car rides, where there was nothing to do but sit and sing along to the likes of Billy Joel, Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, and Sara Bareilles. At the age of 18, she scripted, composed, and choreographed a full length musical, which was not only performed at the high school which she attended, but also was also performed at two local professional theatres.
Abby released her debut EP, "Ready or Not . . .", which she recorded independently, in May of 2018. In the following summer, she traveled to Palestine to aid in teaching the music portion of a summer camp for schoolchildren in Beit Sahour. Her new singles, "Can't Stop Running" and "A Million Words" are AVAILABLE NOW HERE.
